High electricity bills spark call for PJM transparency

Lawmakers introduced bills to require utilities to disclose their votes in the grid operator’s meetings.

Frustrated over high electricity bills, states served by the East Coast grid operator PJM Interconnection are seeking to require more transparency with its business meetings.

PJM is the largest grid operator in the nation. The somewhat obscure entity operates a grid for 67 million people between Chicago and Washington, D.C. Its policies are set by its voting members, many of which are utilities.
