Calif. AI bills face intense opposition from business groups

There is tension between the push for guardrails and the concern that it will hinder innovation.

Business groups are intensifying their opposition to California artificial intelligence regulation bills, as lawmakers return to Sacramento this week from a summer recess. 

The Business Software Alliance is running a targeted ad campaign opposing a bill to regulate automated decision making systems. The Consumer Technology Association is urging Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) to veto five AI bills if passed. Industry policy coalition Chamber of Progress is taking aim at a high-profile AI safety bill
