Bills to streamline insurance approval process head to Newsom

The California legislation is part of a national push to limit the prior authorization process.

California lawmakers are moving to reduce the time that doctors and patients spend waiting for insurance companies to approve routine medical care under two bills heading to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D). 

The proposals, both passed this week, are part of a national push to limit the so-called prior authorization process, which requires physicians to obtain insurer approval before prescribing certain medications, tests, treatments or equipment.
