AI safety legislation approved in California

California lawmakers have given final approval to a revamped artificial intelligence safety bill aimed at preventing catastrophic harms caused by the largest, most powerful models.

The bill’s author, Sen. Scott Wiener (D), announced the bill’s passage Saturday in a post on X.
