Dems dominate airwaves in gubernatorial contests

Republican messaging is being drowned out by huge margins in New Jersey and Virginia.

A month and a half before voters head to the polls in the two states electing new governors this year, Democrats have spent massively more than Republicans on television spots seeking to sway voters in both contests.

In New Jersey, polls show U.S. Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D) leading former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli (R) by 7 to 10 percentage points. In Virginia, reputable surveys find former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D) leading Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears (R) by margins of 5 to 9 points.
