California poised to deploy speed cameras in work zones

The legislation aims to reduce fatalities.

California could become the 12th state since 2020 to authorize work zone speed enforcement cameras under legislation passed this month.

The bill from Assemblymember Matt Haney (D) would allow the California Department of Transportation, known as Caltrans, to deploy up to 35 speed cameras in construction and maintenance zones as part of a pilot program. An initial version of the bill would have allowed as many as 125 cameras.
