Spanberger holds decisive edge in Va. Gov race’s final week

The party out of power in the White House has won all but one election over the past four decades.

Democrats are optimistic history will repeat itself next week when Virginia voters choose a new governor, as polls continue to show former U.S. Rep. Abigail Spanberger’s (D) standing unaffected by the texting scandal roiling the attorney general race. 

Virginians have elected a governor from the opposite party as the president in all but one election since 1977. All signs are pointing to this race following the rule, not replicating the 2013 exception.
