States face complex path for processing partial SNAP payments

Benefits may be delayed weeks or months.

The Trump administration’s plan to fund reduced November food stamp benefits is likely cold comfort to low-income people whose benefits are disrupted by the federal government shutdown. 

Not only are families set to receive just 50% of the amount they qualify for, but U.S. Agriculture Department officials say it could take states weeks or months to process partial benefits.
