States push energy reforms as Dems win on affordability

Residential electricity rates are up more than 10% this year.

State lawmakers are pursuing policies to make electricity more affordable — particularly after Democrats ran successful campaigns this month centered on combating high prices.

Lawmakers, mostly Democrats, in Massachusetts, Michigan, Virginia and Wisconsin, among other states, are exploring policies that could reduce electricity costs. Residential electricity rates have increased by more than 10% this year, according to the Energy Information Administration, and are projected to increase by at least another 4% next year
