Momentum grows to let users take their social media data with them

Digital Choice Act bills will be considered in at least four states this year.

A nascent movement to allow consumers to port their social media data to different platforms is gaining favor among state lawmakers, following passage this year of a first-in-the-nation Utah law.

Digital Choice Act bills were already filed for sessions this year in New Hampshire, New York and South Carolina. A Vermont bill introduced in May will carry over to this year.
