Abortion issue attracted big spending in top 2023 elections

Abortion drove massive spending in the handful of states holding competitive races next week, as groups on both sides of the issue seek to solidify their messaging ahead of far more battles in 2024.

The focus is on elections in four states: legislative races in Virginia, a ballot measure that would enshrine abortion rights in Ohio’s constitution, Kentucky’s gubernatorial race, and the race to fill an open Supreme Court seat in Pennsylvania.
