AI cameras are catching traffic violators in growing number of states

Some states have passed legislation to allow their use.

States are turning to artificial intelligence-powered cameras as a new tool to enforce traffic laws and reduce roadway injuries and deaths.

Virginia lawmakers this year approved legislation allowing the use of cameras to capture speeders, stop-sign runners and crosswalk violators in school zones, work zones and high-risk intersections. Maryland legislators in the past two years have allowed certain localities to use the technology, while other states have relied on federal grants to use it for narrowly defined violations.
