Alabama GOP lays groundwork for Medicaid expansion

Advocates see signs of hope that Republicans will give it serious consideration.

Alabama leaders are laying the groundwork for the state to take advantage of federal Medicaid expansion incentives to increase the number of low-income people eligible for state-subsidized health insurance.

The details of what amounts to a Medicaid expansion plan are only starting to emerge. But advocates, stakeholders and health care policy experts who spoke to Pluribus News shared a similar assessment: all indications point to a new willingness from the state’s Republican leaders to seriously consider Medicaid expansion.
