The American Medical Association teamed up with state and national medical provider associations to defeat at least 80 state scope of practice bills in 2024, continuing its years-long lobbying campaign against attempts to expand the types of procedures that can be performed by clinicians who aren’t physicians.
According to a report it released this month, the organization targeted legislation that would affect a variety of professions, including nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, physicians assistants, naturopaths, pharmacists, optometrists and psychologists.
