Assembly signs off on Newsom bill aimed at gas price spikes

The California Senate said it will convene for a special session to consider the bill next week.

The California Assembly, meeting Tuesday in Sacramento for a special session, passed legislation proposed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) that would require petroleum refineries to maintain sufficient reserves to avoid gas price spikes during maintenance outages.

The Senate will reconvene early next week for hearings on the bill before a floor vote Friday.
