Bills target faster social media response to search warrants

The legislative push comes as social media companies defend their tactics in trials over alleged harms to minors.

Lawmakers seeking to protect children online are advancing legislation in multiple states that would require social media companies to comply with search warrants within 72 hours.

The Colorado Senate and New York Assembly passed bills this month that largely mirror a 2024 California law.
