Blue states demand better pay, benefits for rideshare drivers

Rideshare drivers are winning better pay and benefits in Democratic-led states even as they remain independent contractors, a compromise that is grafting some traditional labor protections onto the gig economy.

Massachusetts last week became the latest blue state to forge an agreement with industry giants Lyft and Uber, ending years of litigation.
