Blue states push tax on millionaires

The number of seven-figure earners has tripled since 2010.

Bills that would raise taxes on millionaires are gaining steam in blue states, where lawmakers are seeking new revenue to fill gaps caused by federal cuts. 

Maine last week became the second state this year to hike taxes on residents who earn more than $1 million in a single year, after Washington state did the same late last month. Democrats in Connecticut, Illinois, New York and Rhode Island are all considering bills that would raise taxes on households earning seven-figures or more.
