Calif. bills advance to regulate AI in health care

Analysts said either measure’s enactment could set a model for other states.

California would lead the way for states seeking to set parameters around artificial intelligence in health care under two bills that advanced in the legislature this week.

A House bill that would require health care providers to tell patients when they are talking to a chatbot – and tell them how to speak with a human – and a Senate bill that would set limits on insurance providers’ use of AI to make coverage decisions were unanimously approved in their respective chambers Wednesday and Thursday.
