Calif. lawmakers scramble to pass energy, climate bills

Newsom is applying pressure to ensure the state brings down electricity costs.

California lawmakers are considering a series of energy and environment bills ahead of a legislative deadline Saturday, including Gov. Gavin Newsom’s (D) proposal to require oil refiners to carry a reserve to ease gas price spikes.

Newsom has threatened to call a special session to help spur action on his bill and a clutch of others that he believes will help bring down electricity bills and help continue the clean energy transition.
