Calif. poised to pioneer neighborhood-wide natural gas phase-out

The pilot programs would prioritize low-income neighborhoods.

A California panel advanced a first-of-its-kind bill to authorize neighborhood-wide decarbonization pilot programs designed to help retire natural gas pipelines.

The Senate passed the bill in May, and it was approved in a 12-1 vote Monday by the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee.
