California lawmakers gave final approval Friday to legislation requiring warning labels on social media sites, similar to bills passed earlier this year in Minnesota and New York.

The bill from Assemblymembers Rebecca Bauer-Kahan (D) and Buffy Wicks (D) would require daily “black box” warnings to users 17 and younger that reads: “The Surgeon General has warned that while social media may have benefits for some young users, social media is associated with significant mental health harms and has not been proven safe for young users.”
