California officials vow to protect access to abortion medication

The Supreme Court could decide Wednesday whether to let stand an appeals court ruling on mifepristone.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and other state leaders vowed to protect access to abortion medication through additional legislation if the U.S. Supreme Court allows restrictions on the distribution of mifepristone, one of the most widely used abortion pills, to take effect. 

“This is a very serious and searing moment,” Newsom said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference in Sacramento.
