California poised to ban localities from requiring voter ID

California lawmakers on Friday gave final approval to a bill that would ban local governments from imposing voter identification requirements.

The bill, which the Assembly passed Friday and now heads to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), aims to prevent a patchwork of election requirements across the state and reinforces California’s jurisdiction, according to the measure’s sponsor, Sen. Dave Min (D).
