California Senate approves bill to avoid gas price spikes

The Assembly will take a concurrence vote Monday before sending it to the governor.

The California Senate advanced legislation Friday that would require petroleum refineries in the state to carry sufficient reserves to avoid sudden increases in gas prices during maintenance outages.

With the 23-9 vote, the bill heads back to the Assembly for a vote Monday to concur with the Senate’s changes. The Assembly’s likely concurrence will send the bill to Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and end the special session he called on Aug. 31.
