California Senate set for Friday vote on bill to curb gas price spikes

The California Senate Appropriations Committee advanced legislation to smooth gas price spikes, setting up a vote during a special session on the Senate floor Friday.

The bill would allow the California Energy Commission to write a rule to require petroleum refineries in the state to carry sufficient reserves to avoid gas price spikes similar to those experienced in the late summer of 2022 and 2023.
