From their perch across San Francisco Bay, it is almost possible for California Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D) and Sen. Nancy Skinner (D) to see Silicon Valley.

The legislators, who both represent Oakland and Berkeley, emerged in the last year as some of the leading voices on regulating the social media companies headquartered there as lawmakers across the nation grapple with the impact Twitter, Facebook and Snapchat have on America’s youth.
