Court blocks Florida social media law

Key provisions in a Florida law barring minors under 14 years old from most major social media platforms have been temporarily blocked, the latest setback to state efforts to regulate youth online safety.

A federal judge in Tallahassee granted a preliminary injunction on Tuesday sought by two tech industry groups. The order from Chief Judge Mark Walker of the Northern District of Florida concludes that the 2024 law, known as HB 3, is “likely unconstitutional.”
