Democrats win control of Virginia legislature

Democrats held their majorities in the state Senate and reclaimed control of the House of Delegates, denying Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) a much-needed political victory.

Virginia voters handed control of the nation’s oldest state legislature to Democrats on Tuesday as the party held their majority in the state Senate and flipped control of the House of Delegates in a series of wins in suburban districts from Northern Virginia to Richmond.

Though several races remain too close to call, Democrats had won at least 21 seats in the 40-member state Senate and 51 seats in the 100-member House of Delegates.
