Dems to push new taxes on wealthy, corps. as budgets tighten

Supporters say it will help counteract Trump’s tax and spending bill.

Progressive lawmakers plan to push for higher taxes on wealthy people and major corporations next year to keep public services funded as state budgets tighten and federal spending cuts kick in.

Democrats in Connecticut, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Washington have already filed or announced plans to file bills that would raise taxes on millionaires, billionaires, corporations or all three to fund services such as health care, food assistance and transit.
