Digital privacy bill wins final approval in Texas legislature

If signed by the governor, the law would take effect on July 1, 2024, with enforcement by the state attorney general.

Texas lawmakers approved a comprehensive data privacy bill that would grant consumers a set of rights for their digital footprints.

Final passage of the measure, which came in the waning hours of the biennial session, provided a major milestone in a state-by-state legislative trudge that began in 2018 in California to give consumers more control over how companies collect and monetize their personal data.
