Facing competition, Calif. boosts film tax credits

Hollywood faces challenges as other states boost tax credits to woo production studios.

California lawmakers on Friday voted to spend $750 million annually on film tax credits, more than doubling the state’s investment as other jurisdictions lure away Hollywood productions. 

The extra spending, pushed by Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), comes as California faces a $12 billion deficit.
