Florida bans abortion after 6 weeks of pregnancy

It brings the state in line with other southern states that have reduced abortion access since Roe v. Wade was overturned.

Florida is set to ban almost all abortions after six weeks after the state House gave final approval to a so-called heartbeat bill, sending it to Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) who has indicated he will sign it.

The bill was passed Thursday after hours of floor debate that was briefly interrupted by protestors who dropped leaflets from the balcony before being shut out of the room. Democrats offered almost 50 amendments that were voted down by voice votes. The Senate previously passed it on a 26-13 vote last week.
