Funding uncertainties complicate state infrastructure plans

Some are forging ahead with multi-year, multi-billion dollar packages, while others take a longer-term approach.

States are taking big swings to clear a backlog of transportation needs, as rising construction costs, declining gas tax collections and a hazy federal funding picture complicate future infrastructure plans.

Governors in California, Illinois and Michigan rolled out or signed major packages this month, and Oklahoma’s Transportation Commission approved an eight-year, $8 billion transportation funding plan.
