‘Green amendments’ seek to add healthy environment to state constitutions

California, Michigan and New Jersey are considering proposals to change their state constitutions to protect the right to clean air and water and a healthy environment.

So-called green amendments have been introduced in nearly 20 states over the past two years, said Maya van Rossum, head of Green Amendments for the Generations, which works with environmentalists, legislators, faith groups and individuals to advance green amendment proposals.
