Growing concern over AI-driven pricing prompts state action

There was a fivefold increase in bills introduced this year compared to 2024.

California lawmakers considered a range of bills to address the growing prevalence of algorithmic pricing, but in the end passed only one: an update to the state’s century-old price-fixing law.

While the push largely came up short, it reflects growing concern from lawmakers across the country, especially Democrats, about the trend of artificial intelligence-powered algorithms being used to set prices and even personalize them to individuals.
