Hawaii empowers counties to limit short-term rentals

The bill was passed by overwhelming margins and is expected to be signed by the governor.

Hawaii’s Democratic-controlled legislature on Wednesday overwhelmingly voted to let counties phase out short-term vacation rentals in a bid to ease the state’s dire housing shortage.

The Senate passed the bill 22-3 and the House passed it 46-5. Hawaii Gov. Josh Green (D) has said he’ll sign it.
