Hawaii lawmakers already planning for Maui recovery

They said the state will have to spend massive amounts of money to rebuild Lahaina.

Hawaii state lawmakers say preparations have already begun for a package of legislation aimed at helping Maui recover from cataclysmic wildfires that have so far claimed more than 100 lives.

It is unclear whether Gov. Josh Green (D) will call a special session to speed consideration of a recovery package, or whether an interim committee will tee up a list of bills ahead of the regular session in January. Green planned to make an announcement at 1:30 p.m. Hawaii time on Wednesday.
