High-stakes retention vote could shift Pa. Supreme Court majority

Only one justice has been booted since 1968.

Voters in Pennsylvania next month will decide whether to retain three of the state’s seven Supreme Court justices, in a swing-state election both national parties are investing in ahead of the 2028 presidential contest.

Democrats’ 5-2 majority on the court is on the line. Justices Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht, all Democrats first elected in 2015, face a once-every-10-years retention vote.
