Hochul proposes $157B N.Y. budget boosted by Wall Street gains

The governor is planning major investments in child care.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Tuesday proposed spending $157 billion in state money to fund services next fiscal year, an almost 6% annual increase made possible by stock market gains and surging Wall Street profits. 

The state is on track to raise over $17 billion more revenue over the next two years than the Fiscal Year 2026 budget anticipated, the Democrat said during her budget presentation.
