New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said Tuesday she wants to boost total state spending by 3.6% to $252 billion next fiscal year, an increase made possible by surging tax collections driven by Wall Street profits.
Higher-than-expected revenue and a brightening fiscal outlook allowed Hochul, who is running for re-election in 2026, to propose increasing funding for state services while also cutting taxes for middle-class New Yorkers.
