New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) on Tuesday proposed spending $233 billion to run state government next fiscal year, about 1.7% more than this year, as the state faces long-term budget pressures.
“This budget proves that you can have fiscal discipline and that can coexist with people-driven, progressive policies,” Hochul said in remarks unveiling her plan. Her budget would neither make major cuts to spending programs nor raise income taxes next year, she said.
