How Trump’s budget proposal affects states

The blueprint provides a window into the president’s policy priorities.

President Trump wants to slash discretionary federal spending by a whopping $163 billion, including by cutting funding for grants states rely on to fund schools, manage public health programs and help people afford housing.

The $1.7 billion budget blueprint the Trump administration released Friday provides a window into the president’s policy priorities. It targets spending that the administration deems wasteful, aligned with “radical gender and climate ideologies,” and better handled by state and local governments, according to a document sent to congressional appropriators.
