Hundreds of AI bills introduced in states

Congress has been slow to act, leaving an opening for state lawmakers to take the lead.

Legislation related to artificial intelligence is flooding into bill hoppers around the country, with lawmakers attempting to get their arms around the fast-emerging technology they’re still stretching to understand.

Max Rieper, who specializes in tech-related policy at the government affairs firm MultiState, said his firm is currently tracking 170 AI bills in 18 states that were pre-filed or are carrying over from last year.
