Illinois would become the 12th state to allow terminally ill patients to end their own lives with the help of a doctor under legislation headed to Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D).

The bill would allow adults who have less than 6 months to live to obtain prescriptions for life-ending medication that they would have to administer themselves. The option would only be available to Illinois residents.
