Illinois restricts crossover drinks placement in stores

The new law seeks to avoid consumer confusion and minors accessing them.

Illinois will join Virginia in enacting a law that restricts the side-by-side placement in stores of similarly branded alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, such as Mountain Dew and Hard Mtn Dew.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) last week signed a bill updating the state’s Liquor Control Act in response to new products that are hitting store shelves, including spiked soft drinks and alcohol-infused ice cream. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) signed similar legislation last year.
