Job openings down, but 10 million unfilled positions remain

Legislators in virtually every state in the nation are grappling with ways to fill crucial holes in the workforce.

Employers are still searching for nearly 10 million workers even as the workforce has returned to pre-pandemic levels, presenting a challenge for businesses that need to add more employees to grow.

New data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show the number of open jobs declined in 20 states in February. But that still leaves 9.9 million unfilled positions in states across the country.
