Lawmakers push for PFAS ban in firefighting foam, equipment

Legislation was enacted in four states.

States are moving to ban PFAS from firefighting foam and equipment to help reduce exposure and bring down high rates of cancer suffered by those in the profession.

Lawmakers in about a dozen states have introduced legislation this year to prohibit the use of firefighting foam containing PFAS or equipment with PFAS, or both. Legislation was enacted in Maine, Oregon, Rhode Island and Vermont.
