State lawmakers leaned into their role as the nation’s de facto tech regulators this year, passing nearly 350 laws across 48 states — a 45% increase from 2024, according to a report released Wednesday.
Most of the new laws deal with artificial intelligence, youth online safety and data privacy. Cryptocurrency, data centers and online expression were other hot topics, while lawmakers also passed a handful of laws related to antitrust and digital taxation.
