Lawmakers seek to shush streaming ads

A California law enacted last year has led to bills from Democrats and Republicans across the country.

Lawmakers in more than half a dozen states want to muffle loud commercials on streaming platforms.

They have introduced bills requiring that ads not be louder than programming, a mandate that already exists at the federal level for television broadcasters and cable operators. The bills in Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Pennsylvania and Virginia follow the passage of a first-in-the-nation California law last year. There is also federal legislation
